CHFD Hazardous Materials Unit Special Called to Gloucester City Fire

On Tuesday June 26, 2007 just after 1:00PM, CHFD Hazardous Materials Unit was special called to Gloucester City for a fire in a former chemical plant at 751 Water Street. Initial calls reported a fire in the closed warehouse involving chemical tanks being dismantled for disposal. Working with Gloucester City's Hazardous material team, crews had to deal with extreme heat and humidity while extinguishing the fire. Due to the type of chemical, crews had to use special dry chemical extinguishing agents to put out the fire instead of water. The extreme heat prompted a request for CHFD's Rehab unit to replenish much needed fluids and a NJ Transit air-conditioned bus to cool firefighters. The fire was extinguished by around 3:ooPM. Crews from Mt. Emphraim and Westville also assisted in the operation. There were no reported injuries.
